First light with C8 Edge scope.

Hello Everyone.

A long absence but I'm getting my feet wet with solar imaging again. I've invested in a C8 Edge scope and Point Grey camera with IMX174 CMOS chip so I'm looking forward to high frame rates and some success with high resolution imaging. Here are some first light shots. There's not much to see but I think the results bode well for the return of some solar activity down the line.

Cheers.
Peter.

Looks a nice setup and you should be well set for an increase in surface activity.

Impressive setupt, Peter! And very nice resolution on the images.

However they looks somewhat overexposed on both my monitors. And I tried to make the second image a bit less bright and it shows more details. Hope you don't mind it.

Great first shots, and an impressive imaging train! I can't wait to see more of your work.

I agree with Valery, reducing the exposure should yield more detail.

Thanks everyone for your very kind comments!
Valery: You’re right. There is more detail visible with the reduced exposure, although it still looks a touch too dark on my (uncalibrated) monitor. I have to control my inclination to push the contrast too far!

Peter,

You are correct. My interpretation of the image is a bit too dark. But this is because there is a limit of the dymanic range of the finished JPEG image. Really the best compromise is somewhere between.
I too took a lot of movies which looked good when I recorded them at the telescope in a full day light. But they were a bit overexposed when I process them in a usual room illumination be it window illumination or evening lamp illumination. It took some time correct this and now I recording the movies with a histogram filled for about 60% max.

But the main result of your images is that this setup works great and the resolution is remarkable, so your location is OK seeing wise.
Looking for more images from you.
