July 8th - Ha Session

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I'm playing catch-up with imaging session over the past few weeks, and have finally processed my data from last Sunday (July 8th). A clear day with moderate seeing through he mid morning, but as usual the temps climbed to the 30's C and by noon seeing was getting poor.

The disk had no labeled AR's though a few regions stood out in Ha, several small filaments on the southern disk, and a pair of larger proms on the western limb. The first images were taken through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1200Ha double stacked solar scope, with a disk/limb composite and a longer exposure prom shot with the disk masked off:

The next set of images were taken through the CR-150/DSII/B1800Ha modded scope, showing the 'new' activity as it rotates into view, another small region located to the west of the mid disk and some of the filaments along the south part of the disk:

The same setup was then turned to get images of the proms...the two on the west limb were the most impressive, but a number of smaller proms were also seen along the east limb:

My final set if images involved an attempt to DS a borrowed Quark Chromosphere on the modded CR-150/DSII scope in an attempt to get better contrast on the disk features. By the time I had the setup assembled and focused I was into the poor seeing and wound up binning the ASI174 camera to shorten the espousers. It looks promising, but I think a Prominence model might work better with this set-up. I'd be interested in any comments on this setup anyone cares to share:

This covers the session form Sunday, with a few set to finish off yet.

As always, questions and comments are welcome.

Hi, Brian

I remember that some of these proms were hard to capture because of their low brightness. I remember not even trying to record some of these. After looking at your images, I should have tried harder.

Mark, David, and Lou...

Thanks for your comments guys...always appreciated :bow

Lou...I was surprised the seeing didn't ruin these prom sequences, but I was quite happy the tow larger ones showed some nice details. I even got the little floater above the east limb.

I agree with the comments above, Brian. The proms are excellent and some nice detail on the limb as well.

Cheers, Peter.
