14th July Ha and CaK sun

Post by Carbon60 »

Just back from a short vacation in sunny Greece (regrettably without scope- it was painful to see such beautiful clear blue skies without having any imaging equipment). Thankfully the sun is also shining in clear skies over much of the UK this weekend, including my own little patch here in Lancashire, giving me the chance to catch up on some imaging with an early morning session yesterday.

I did try with the 250mm RCT but couldn't capture anything that I was pleased with enough with to post. I'll try again this morning. Indeed, the conditions suited smaller aperture scopes. Here, then, are some images captured with my DS 150mm/Lunt 35 mod of the lovely large and central AR (albeit devoid of sunspots). The underlying magnetic fields are certainly splendidly imprinting themselves within the spicule field, creating wonderful texture on a huge scale that are particularly impressive in hydrogen alpha.

I also captured the same region in CaK. This one on a 72mm f6 refractor with a Lunt B600 CaK module and 5x TV Powermate. Reproduced in mono and colour.

I also captured a couple of nice proms, again in Ha.

and SW limb....(DS tuning was a bit off!)

Off now to set up the 250mm RCT.

Thanks for looking.

Wonderful detail Stu. Are you near the sea? Seeing is rubbish lately here on the Pennine margins.
Could of course be due to the new obsy not being as porous to the wind as the old one .
Best wishes,
David

All great but the central AR images images are magnificent ! I very much like the way you process those images in a soft way, not hard contrast but still showing beautiful detail.

Wow! these are really delightful but I am very impressed with the prom shots, the rim detail has very fine resolution something I have been struggling with recently. Glad you had a good holiday :)

Many thanks, everyone. I always greatly appreciate your comments.

Dave, near Longridge, not the sea, regrettably.
