August 16 2018 AR12718 3 bands 280mm scope.

Post by Valery »

Hello to all,

Morning of the August 16 was calm and sunny - a good chance to image a new tiny AR12718 in CaK, UV 393nm and in H-a. My trusty C11 scope was equipped with the ARIES full size (295mm) DERF energy rejection filter and three narrow band filters - CaK (393nm, 2,2A FWHM), 393nm bandpass ( 20nm) filter and H-a 656nm (0,2A FWHM). Basler 1920-155 camera.

Seeing was OK.

Thanks for looking and comments.

Valery,

you are usually producing quality images, but these are exceptional. Seeing was ok maybe is an understatement?
The glow in the CAK is great, granulation: can it be done better and that 0.2A H-Alfa, where did you find that filter ...

Regards,

Paul

Hi Valery,

great pictures! The CaK in particular is terrific - I haven't seen any CaK image taken with amateur equipment that comes closer to the DOT images in terms of detail and resolution!

Would you tell us what exposure time you used and how many frames you stacked?

Regards,

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thanks for looking at these images.

Exposure time was 6ms and 1500 stacked images.

Nothing wrong, the 3 images are stupendous, but as a personal taste I like the first 2 much more, for me the Ha is a bit oversharpened compared to the other two.
Best regards,
Eric.

Understand now. But I believe the image is not oversharpened - no noise (sand or dotty) and if I use a bit less of deconvolution, I start to loss the tiniest details which H-a image is full of. Not so with continuum image and in CaK core.

Have changed the H-a image for less sharpened one.

Thanks, Stu

Note that the seeing was just OK, nothing special. May be a bit better when I recorded the CaK.

With Solar Scintillation Monotor such results should be achieveable in average climates. Especially if an aperture is smaller.

Hi Valery,

thanks (somewhat belatedly - I was very busy last week) for the info!

I am also shooting CaK at 6ms (or a little less) exposure time, but I mostly stack around 200 frames. I've never used a stack of more than 1000 frames, but I recall that Emil Kraaikamp says somewhere on his website, that he prefers to stack many pictures and, as he puts it, push the stack a bit harder.

So this is something to explore for me: Vary the stack size. I'll probably try this in both directions to see what works best: More than 1000 frames, as in your terrific image, but I'll also try much smaller stacks, as Christian recommends - if I can find a way to get less noisy videos, maybe with a different camera.

Thanks again and regards,

Frank

Frank,

The CaK image in this thread is far far not the best in resolution and details among all I have obtained during last year. I still hope to overcome my laziness and finally post my best CaK pictures.
