A new small group - images added

Post by krakatoa1883 »

A new B-class group emerged two days ago in the S hemisphere, it started as a tiny spot in a facular area, today it has slightly evolved in four small spots. It is a very minor group but worth imaging as 12718 has now almost totally vanished. I tried to take a Ca-H close up but today is very hot here (35°C) and the daily turbulence is extreme.

Very nice CaH images, Raf. I am glad I caught 2718 before it disappeared...

Hi Raf,

beautiful shots!

I caught the same group in CaK in late afternoon:

Quite interesting to see how much has changed over a few hours!

Thanks to all for your kind comments. I made some further images today but my summer "heat island" is still keeping turbulence to the highest level.

@Alexandra, I'll let you know when the filter arrives, I am very curious. Shippings are notoriously slow in this month, I am also waiting from UPS the components for making my Lunt50 mod but no one has knocked on my door yet...

I have made some further images of this group that has undergone only a modest evolution in the past few days. Today I counted 7 spots, the same as yesterday. Actually in the W hemisphere there were two isolated pores, I dont' think they can evolve further, so AR12719 is the only significant group at the moment.

Today I decided to make use of my solar newtonian, that I generally don't use in summer because it suffers a lot of the daytime turbulence. However today the sky has been covered for most of the morning and when I started imaging the seeing was acceptable. The K line filter is not very sharp (actually it is formed by two filters stacked and tilted) so I use it mainly as an ERF only, however with this filter I have been able to obtain some images in a few minutes before the turbulence became unacceptable again

By using of the 150mm achromat (@100 mm free aperture) and Quark Calcium H I taken this image through a 2.5x Powermate placed before the Quark
