Sun in Ha and CaK 25th Aug
The weather reports were a bit ambiguous as to whether we'd have sunshine or not, so I did what most of us probably do which is to cross fingers and simply look out of the window in the morning. To my delight......blue sky (well, mostly).
I felt confident enough to set up the 250mm RCT in Ha, but after 20 minutes of trying, I couldn't obtain anything worth keeping and all my data using this scope ended up in the bin. I switched to the DS150mm Ha (modified Lunt 35) and things were much better, but again not ideal and the images were lacking bold detail. Nevertheless there were some worth keeping and these are shown below. There are a couple of nice looking active regions (AR2719 and AR2720) with a little bit of crackling activity through AR2720. Some modest proms were on display, which I tried to capture using the same scope. I switched to the DS Lunt 60 Ha for a full disk and then over to my 72mm/f6 with a Lunt CaK B600 module for a full disk in CaK. I also managed a closer view of the active regions in CaK.
Here are the results:

A closer view of the two active regions (should have flipped the image!)

and a closer view (cropped image) of AR2720. Not ideal....

A couple of proms.... You'll see that my DS tuning was a bit off

Then over to the blue and a CaK full disk

and finally a closer view of the active regions in CaK. This was taken with a 5x TV Powermate on the 72mm refractor.

That was the end of the session. Clouds rolling in and a busy schedule ended any chance of doing anything more.
Thanks for looking.

What a super active region!! the spots have really developed and look beautiful in both lights you are so lucky to get Sun this weekend, the rain seems to be parked over Manchester and Cheshire like a bad rash this weekend and it is dire weather.
Thanks for the beautiful views

Re: Sun in Ha and CaK 25th Aug
Many thanks David and Alexandra. The clear weather was really unexpected. I tried to make the most of it, despite the poor seeing conditions.

These are very nice, Stu. The high resolution H alpha shots are quite good considering your seeing challenges.
Cheers, Peter.

Re: Sun in Ha and CaK 25th Aug
Many thanks, Peter. The seeing conditions are the limiting factor in most cases, for me. Good seeing is far too infrequent.

Nice set of images, Stu!
Too bad the sun is blank again.
