August 24th - 3 Bands

Post by MapleRidge »

Good evening everyone...

My finals set of images from the session on August 24th is highlighted in this post. Another clear day, but the seeing was poor again which limited success at the longer focal lengths. This set follows the similar flow as the previous day...full disk Ha through the double stacked LS80T/LS75FHa/B1200Ha solar scope and the Stellarvue 110 was used for the WL and CaK full disk images. Since the seeing was marginally better than the previous day I took a few shots through the C9.25 Edge with the Daystar Quantum filter, but even at F20 results were poor. One example is post at the end of the series.

My first view through the Lunt solar scope was a surprise sine the small region to the north of AR2719 had grown considerably in 24 hours, and the long filament was still visible on the NE quadrant. The FD Ha images are shown below:

The final set of images are through the C9.25 Edge/Daystar ERF/Quantum 0.45A/2x tele-converter:

Based on the solar seeing monitor, most of the time the seeing was no better than 2.5...mostly in the 3 range, but the few instances that it improved closer to 1 there sharpness on the monitor was much better. I need to get the SSM configured with Firecapture to help the larger aperture work its best.

Questions and comments are always welcome,
Brian

Very nice shots, Brian.
Really like the H-alpha disks and the CaK closeup of the ARs.

Cheers, Peter.

Thanks for your feedback Peter...always appreciated :bow

I was glad that the short focal length material turned out pretty well...just need better seeing  , as always!

Absolutely stunning detail on the CaK close up, I don't know how you got such good detail with seeing around 2.5, well done :bow

Hi Alexandra...
Thanks for your comments on both this ands the 23rd session!!!

I may have lucked out with some moments of better seeing with the captures, but I also kept the stack down around 200 of the 1,000 frames captured to try and select the better quality ones. The ZWO1600 does not run much more than 20 FPS with the large ROI, so it can either catch a lot moments of poor seeing or spans enough time that a few good ones get caught.

In the end, probably mostly luck ;)
