High Res Chromosphere at 393.4A | Aug 30th 2018
Heya,
Didn't have much time today, a storm gave me a moment, but then continued to dump. Florida summers. High resolution in Calcium K of a random surface. The sun has very few features today. But at high resolution there's still tons to look at. 150mm F8 refractor, Baader Blue CCD Filter (ERF1), Chroma 393.4nm Filter (ERF2) and PST CaK Filter with ASI1740MM & 3x Barlow.
And then...
Very best,

Nice images, Marty.
You did a good job capturing the CaK chromospheric texture without introducing any artifacts, as far as I can tell!
Cheers, Peter.

Looks fine!
Are you using the new Chroma filter Apollo is referring to?

Thanks Peter,
One of these days, I'm probably going to bombard you with a lot of questions about building a digital SHG.... My interest in narrowband Calcium simply cannot be achieved with these solid filters.
It's a prototype to that filter, yes. The Chroma filter acts as an ERF (the 2nd ERF in the train) but also puts the transmission on 393.4nm within around 10 angstroms or so (I think). The real narrowband filter here is still the PST CaK filter.
Very best,

Very nice results, Marty. I like how you put that 150mm down to work....

Great images Marty, the PST CaK made the difference. I am surprised of how your refractor seems so well corrected at that WL.

It's just an old Celestron CR150HD Refractor, achromat. Nothing special. *shrug*krakatoa1883 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 8:02 am I am surprised of how your refractor seems so well corrected at that WL.
But, it works, and it was cheap!
