Fantastic Prom Group Today! Sunspot 2721, HA & CAK | Sep 9th 2018

Post by MalVeauX »

Heya,

Fair conditions this morning, after checking Gong, and noted that we got the designation for AR2721 as a sunspot. It's two visible umbra have already decayed since yesterday, looks like to be a very short lived spot. Was hoping it would stay another few days as it approached the limb, as my favorite spots are limb spots. Yesterday's largest prom already rotated on, but the western prom group has really exploded and is full of activity and lots of big groups. I played it safe with my limited time with the weather this morning and imaged in HA with a focal reducer to lower the scale and in CaK with a 2x barlow to also keep the scale lower.

Celestron 150mm F8 Refractor + Quark + 0.5x Focal Reducer + ASI174MM (HA)
Celestron 150mm F8 Refractor masked to 100mm F12 + PST CaK + Chroma 393.4 + 2x Barlow + ASI174MM (CaK)

What superb prominences!! I saw them on GONG but sadly the weather never played fair this weekend for me.
