Closure of National Solar Observatory remains shrouded in secrecy

Post by Dave S »

I have no idea what kind of security issue would require shut down of a solar observatory and post office. It'll probably all makes sense some day.

SUNSPOT, New Mexico - The National Solar Observatory in Sunspot New Mexico has been closed since last Thursday.

The post office near Sunspot also remains closed. Its employees have been temporarily transferred to the post office in Cloudcroft, a USPS official told ABC-7.

---------------

A statement made by the Otero County Sheriff, Benny House, to Alamogordo Daily News in the aftermath of the announcement has contributed to intense speculation around the incident, however. House said that they were asked to standby but given no further information.

“The FBI is refusing to tell us what’s going on. We’ve got people up there (at Sunspot) that requested us to standby while they evacuate it. Nobody would really elaborate on any of the circumstances as to why. The FBI were up there. What their purpose was nobody will say.”

The sheriff also claimed there was a Blackhawk helicopter at the site and work crews on towers and around antennas.

Looks like it is because of a geomagnetic storm:

I think that is a hoax story according to Matt Penn and certainly from watching the Sun I don't think there will be any major solar flare do you :)
I think it is either a security issue or something else. https://eu.alamogordonews.com/story/new ... 227788002/

It could be anything, we get evacuations sometimes at the University because a chemical compound becomes unstable, you never know what they have been messing about with. Scientists are scientists :)

Alexandra, I downloaded the data set from SDO site, from the 6th to the 15th as a movie file & found these images.
First pass of the 'object' then the 2nd, I then took a look in Stellarium at where the Moon & Sol was at those times.
Jpegs & movie file looks to me like it was 2 partial moon eclipse's from the cameras point of view, this sound about right ?

And the answer is child porn:

The source of child pornography was traced to an IP address used at the observatory and a source within the building observed a computer with "not good" images on it, the warrant states.

An investigation by the FBI revealed that a janitor is the main suspect in the search, however he has not been charged with a crime even though his name in on the warrant.

I just read that too...

I'm not a conspiracy theory person or anything, but, come on... a janitor was using the observatories internet for porn? No formal charges? Just a scapegoat name on a document?

Hrm....

Very best,
