Heya,
Some interesting proms on the limb this morning. Clear sky and decent seeing. Fall is approaching I suppose! Pointed my 120mm F8 refractor with a Quark at these ones.
I think in general my 6" F8 just can't take the thermal load with currents in the tube with only the internal 50mm UV/IR cut filter near the focuser. I think it would need to be a much bigger real ERF near the objective, or a full aperture one in front of the object. So for now, I took my 6" scope down and went back to the 120mm and the difference is significant in terms of thermal handling which was really killing my seeing. So with the 120mm, I'm back to imaging at 4200mm focal length, around F35 with the Quark. I don't think I'm going to try to refit my 150mm F8 with a bigger ERF for now as I want to instead put those funds towards an 8" objective in the future and a full aperture ERF for that, just trying to decide on what telescope design at this point (refractor vs SCT vs reflector) for the setup eventually.
Anyhow, today's proms:
Very best,
