AR12724/25 remnants at high res 280mm C11
Hi all,
Here are two photos of AR 2724 and 2725 remnants. No spots in them now. However they looks fine in a C11 280mm telescope.
I used two etalons. 1. Quark Chromosphere with FWHM close to 0,2A and the second one is my best hand selected PST etalon worked in a telecentric scheme. Quark worked at F/43 and the PST worked at F/D>50 both with a followed focal reducer at around 0,65x.
You can see that a proper telecentric system works fine with a good airspaced etalon. I personally can't see any significant
diffeernce between these two systems, while a theory tells us that an airspaced etalon works in a telecentric configuration
far not as good as a solid spaced etalon. We can see that this is not always the case. Some very narrow air spaced etalons keep
their own quite good in a slow telecentric scheme.

Thanks, Marty. You may be not believe, but this given post at least for 50% was targetted for you. This is where you can be with your 10" Meade or better with a C11, which are very cheap and powerfull enough and are better solutions for lunar and planetary lucky imaging than what you can do with a 6" refractor or an 8" SCT even if it HD version. There is no substitution for an aperture.

I'm saving towards it. I think my 10" is not worth using for this, it's just too old of a scope (30+ years old). And to get another big scope and use smaller scopes with it, I'd have to get a new mount and everything too. I'm using the 6" refractor right now just because I have it, and the ERF I'm using is a loaner. Saving towards an 8" ERF. While I'd love to have a bigger scope and bigger ERF, I have to be realistic with budget since I really want a three scope setup that is permanent in my observatory (big aperture scope, small achromat for white light, CaK full disc and a double stacked smaller HA scope). My C11 is very old and of average optical quality. With a powerful deconvolution software we all use, a telescope can be of very middle quality.

How is the transmission when you double stack the PST etalon & the Quark together? Do you prefer single stack for surface imaging like this?

The transmission in such a combination is mostly defined by transmission in:
1. Blocking filter - can be vary up to 2x !
2. Quark and PST etalon transmission. Can vary up to 3x!
So, a telescope is the last and the least factor in transmission.
When image active areas, especially with large spots and spiculaes and prominences at the limb I prefer a narrow single stacked etalon like my best Quark and my best PST etalon.
For imaging of "desert" areas, dark filaments, prominences near limb, some smaller spots I prefer a double stacked combination.
