Point grey imx 174 help help please
Hello all here I am again asking for help and advice.I have the above camera and with camera power cable ( cost me £38) one end has an 8 pin connector that fits in the camera but the other end will not fit in either my Skywatcher power tank or my Celestron lithium battery, what do I need to purchase that will allow me to complete the connection. At the moment I plug into my usb3 port and the camera seems to work OK so do I need to plug in this cable as well, and will the camera work better? or has it been a waste of money. I could ask the agent at Astrograph but I get the feeling I may be wasting my time there I could be wrong. Can anyone help please.

Just ask Rupert at astrograph to swap it for one that does fit. If you're not confident in knowing what to do as a diy fix then contact the seller else you risk damaging an expensive camera.

Hello and thanks for your replies. Here are a couple of pics, one is the label on the plastic bag that the cable came in and the other is both ends of that cable. The end on the left is the one I cannot fit into anything I have and the one on the right is the end that fits into the camera. If and when I get this sorted will I need to plug into the laptop as well as this extra power source?

Just a suspicion, have you tried plugging that end into the end of the cable that has the cigarette lighter (the bit you would normal put into your mount)? as I have a wire that does this and works fine from the battery (Celestron power tank).

Thanks Alexandra I tried as you suggested and it fit. I also contacted Ana at FLIR who sent me a manual and that cleared things up. The reason, I believe, that you would use the gpio cable is if the camera keeps falling off, stops working or staggers, if you get my drift. I will try things out at the next, sunny, opportunity. Once again thanks for your time.

I can't see the difference with or without the external powercable to the IMX174.
