Sun in CaK Lunt B600 + Omega filter
Inspired by others on this forum, I purchased an Omega CaK filter on ebay to use in conjunction with my Lunt B600. I know that this can be a bit of a risk as they are a somewhat variable in terms of quality and performance, but I thought it worth the risk.
Here are some images from yesterday and this morning. As we know, it's a pretty blank Sun, unfortunately.
Basler acA1920-155um camera
72mm f6 refractor
1.5x barlow FDs and 5x powermate for the closer views.
Omega filter mounted in a filter housing and screwed into the front of the barlow/Powermate.
Minimal ImPPG

I tried to do a side-by-side comparison, but the clouds had other ideas..... Here is a previous FD using the Lunt B600 alone.

There is a definite improvement over the Lunt module alone.
Last night was clear so I also spent a little time imaging the Moon.

Thanks for looking.
A couple of additions (2.5x Powermate 2 pane mosaics).

Really fine images, Stu. Have you noted any difference compared with B600 alone ?

Hi Stu...
I hope you get more opportunity to compare the combinations!
Out of curiosity, is the Omega+Barlow installed before or after the B600 CaK module?

B600 first, directly in the focuser, then the Omega which I mounted in a holder and screwed into the front of the Barlow.

Many thanks, Eric. Maybe at some point I'll image some proms too

Re: Sun in CaK Lunt B600 + Omega filter
Hi Apollo, yes, I might have hit lucky with this one, although it isn't 'extremely 2A' as advertised, but it seems to work.TheSkyBurner wrote: ↑Sun Oct 28, 2018 9:31 pm looks like you won the lottery with that omega filter.

Re: Sun in CaK Lunt B600 + Omega filter
I am sure I see a couple of Apollo ferrets in the top two images. Looks nice Stuart, I wonder what it would be like at high res. How much light does the filter cut out? just thinking of exposure length for hi res.

Re: Sun in CaK Lunt B600 + Omega filter
Very nice, Stu.
I agree with you. The Omega filter gives some contrast improvement in my system as well. Maybe it does a slightly better job than the Lunt blocking filter in suppressing neighbouring etalon modes. Looks like your filter uniformity is good.
Cheers.
