November 4th Session

Hello everyone..

The promised clear skies eventually arrived this morning, but the seeing became increasingly poor as the morning progressed. I ran one set of full disk Ha images through the LS75FHa/B1200Ha on the William Optics 72mm scope, then switched to the CR-150 OTA that was refitted with both the LS80T primary etalon/DSII module for make a double stacked 150mm scope.

The full disk image is shown below, composites of separate disk and limb exposures. In this single stack system these is next to no disk activity and a few small proms:

With the DS setup on the CR-150 OTA, a few more chromospheric feature appeared, with several filaments appearing and a small area of activity as well. The following images used the B1800Ha and 3x tele-extender ahead of the ZWO 174MM camera.

First, the area with several active cores inside of the eastern limb:

The next image is on the NW limb showing a group of proms and a small filament leading towards the limb:

The NW limb has a small prom and a few small filaments:

The last area of interest is along the southern disk where several small filament tufts trailed across the disk:

I was glad to have the clouds hold off until the afternoon and have a chance to view and image...too few lately.

Questions and comments are always welcome,
Brian

Brian you are always so systematic in your coverage of the disc and various features, these are always beautifully presented and explained. When I go out imaging I have a sort of mad panic dash at anything I can see in a random order and then finally settle on a full disc. I guess I am more used to the British weather and the fact that it could go cloudy any second and I cram as fast as I can. I wish I could be more relaxed and methodical like you :bow

Brian:
A really good session and results, you had time to play with the Sun.
I was at the rural observatory during the weekend (1st to the 4th), but the Sun did not show not even once. :(
This day was the best one, but could not even see the Sun, rained everyday.

Alexandra, Franco, and Eric...

Thanks for your comments and feedback on the images...always appreciated :bow

Alexandra, I usually start with the FD images to see what should be targeted when I move to the larger scopes but sometimes I get clouded out before much chance of doing the hi-res work. Weather here is usually un-cooperative too  The order I post typically follows the capture sequence, with some discussion of the process. Glad to know you like the approach ;)

Eric, the Mak looks great, but too bad the weather didn't allow you to do any imaging. Looking forward to seeing its results!

Excellent images, Brian. As Alexandra says, a nice systematic approach, covering all the interesting features.

I really like your limbs, do you mind sharing how you process the limb?

Very best,

Hi Brian,

A very nice set of images at such a boring sun face!

Hi Alexandra,

My advice, if I may. Before you going to image the sun, visit this link and select a good image a few minutes earlier. Then copy the image to the
folder and then see which sun features do you prefer to image first, second etc. This save a lot of time and efforts.

Hope this will help you to spend your sessions time better.

Thanks for your feedback Valery, always appreciated :bow

Alexandra, the GONG network from Valery's link is a great planning tool. Too bad it doesn't show a lot of the fainter proms that we are left with these days.

Hi Derek...

Thanks for your feedback on the images!!! Hopefully you can get a chance to do some solar work, but at least while you are busy the sun is pretty quiet.

Good to hear your son has the blessing of the school to help you this spring...this is a co-op type of program isn't it? I think you mentioned it once before.
