Dec 26 Prominence Animation
Another clear day coinciding with available time - wow, not only the sun was shining but Lady Luck too! But luck always has it limits I set up early but misjudged the sun's trajectory over the tree tops so had to pick up the rig and move it, then realign, etc. etc. Then the software gremlin showed its ugly head again and required that I uninstall/reinstall FireCapture and the SSM plugin - not once but twice before I had a functional camera. It seems the SSM plugin is the problem - awaiting on some feedback from the developer. The seeing was mostly bad but made the most of it. I used the Lunt LS100THa doublestacked with the Solar Spectrum modified T-scanner for FDs as well as the Zeiss APQ130 set-up for prominence close-ups. I even tried some white light with the Herschel wedge to try to capture convection cells but not much luck there. I think it requires better seeing and a longer focal length than what I used. That said, here's a prom animation that turned out OK. Technical details included at the link.
Thanks for looking!

Sounds like you had more than your share of problems trying to get up and running, but the animation certainly paid off. Nice work

Re: Dec 26 Prominence Animation
Christopher,
yes that SSM pluging can give a problem. If you startup FC and the pluging is still enabled it will freeze capturing. Just go to to plugins, unselect it.
FC will then work ok, then you just select the plugin again and everything works.
Had the same problem, and it took a while before i found a way to get around this,
Regards,
Paul

Re: Dec 26 Prominence Animation
Thank you for your comments. I had wondered about the switching the plugin off and on approach. I will try it when the next opportunity avails. I’m experiencing a few other issues with the plug-in as well, one of which would at times preclude this remedy. I will list them in a separate post.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Christopher

Thanks Alexandra and Alfred. Yes, sometimes the story must be told, no matter how gruesome
