Ca K and G band images take on July 1 and 8, 2018

Post by christian viladrich »

Dear All,

I still have some images taken on 2018 waiting for processing. Here are some of them. The solar activity was not much higher than now :-(

The seeing was quite good on July 1, 2018 :

Here are close-ups on the chromospheric network and inverse granulation near the center of the solar disk :

An image of the limb was taken with the 300 mm Newtonian and a G band filter on July 8:

Best regards

These are excellent Christian! What focal length are you running at with the 2 closeup CaK shots?

Hello Mark,
The focal length is close to 3000 mm.

Thanks Christian. What are your experiences of the ZWO290M as a camera for solar?

Thanks Pedro :-)

Mark, regarding the ASI290, the S/N max is 6.9 bits while it is 7.5 bits for the IMX174. So, in situations where there is a lot of light (e.g. use of an Hershel wedge), the IMX 174 will give better results.
In Ca K, light could me missing. I had some good results with the ASI290 on Venus in UV and on the Sun in Ca K. Still, I have not done extensive tests comparing ASI290 and the IMX 174.
On another hand, the small pixel size of the ASI 290 is a problem in Ha when using mica-spaced etalon since we need to reach F/30.

Absolutely wonderful shots :bow :bow :hamster: I have been doing some Christmas processing to clear the hard drives as well :)

What CaK filter do you use as I have not heard of this brand before?
