My first images of 2019

Post by krakatoa1883 »

The sky has been clear for several weeks during December and January but high northern winds due to a low pressure area stably placed on east Europe made the seeing always terrible and I had no opportunities to obtain any decent image. Last Sunday I couldn't resist to try my new Andover G band filter but unfortunately the seeing was still far from optimal, I have only been able to image some granulation with my 100ED refractor and the Herschel prism

The result is not good but despite the turbulence it has been useful to understand that my new 3x ES Telextender that I used in front of the filter is well corrected in this band as well as in calcium light (I didn't process the calcium raw because too much disturbed by the turbulence). Tried some prominences too, blurred by the wavy limb

and a full calcium disc almost totally devoid of any detail

These are great shots Raf! Congrats on your first images of the year. The first shot with the G Band filter is a killer!

A great session, Raf. Agree with Mark, that granulation image is super.

Thanks to you all. I have been very pleased to note that the ES 3x behaves in about the same way as my Powermate 2.5x do, it provides a quite large sweet spot in my Quark which means it is almost telecentric and is very fine in Ca light.

Wow! I don't know why you think the results weren't good, they are all wonderful and the granulation image is fabulous :bow
