Post by Astrophil »

Here are my over processed contributions of AR2733 before it falls off the limb.
The first is from January 29th and the second is a cropped version from the 28th.

The first image is at the extreme edge of 6" aperture resolution!

Thanks,

Valery

Indeed! I think your seeing conditions must be spot on!

Thanks for all the replies and comments. We all know that seeing is everything but a little luck helps as well. When recording the videos, I didn't think the seeing was anything exceptional and seemed to fluctuate between slow undulations and high speed vibrations. It was clear most of those two days. Many videos were captured in hopes of catching a calm period. I guess it worked.

After many days of tuning and tweaking the alignment of the Solar Spectrum etalon, I found that double stacking with the Quark Combo has resulted in very uneven field illumination and long exposure times. The resulting images were unsatisfactory with the seeing conditions.

The single stack allowed for < 5 ms exposures, using a focal reducer, 50% histogram, and a higher contrast gamma setting. Still only 28 fps. Processing in imppg could be altered from the norm with lower sigma settings and higher iterations. Lower sigma and higher amounts of unshared masking as well. In a photo editing program a gradient mask was applied and the usual curves and levels adjusted. A slight de-noise mainly to highlights seemed to help avoid the way over processed look. Then again it might have just been a good image stack to begin with.

Thanks again,

Phil

Great images, Phil. Lovely resolution. That's a heck of a set-up.
