February 9th Session

Post by MapleRidge » Sun Feb 10, 2019 4:17 am

Hello everyone...

We were treated to a clear, sun-filled day today...the wind made the -8C seem colder than it was. The solar disk was pretty blank today with limited features, but there were many small proms and one brighter one that showed well while I was getting wet up.

The first image is is a full disk composite assembled form separate disk and limb exposures through the LS80T/LS5FHa/B1200Ha DS solar scope. The limb frame of these images is inverted to highlight the proms. The large complex on the eastern limb showed well with longer exposures with the camera but was not visible to the eye.

The fainter parts of the eastern prom show up better with an even longer exposure:

Seeing was not the best, but I did use the modded CR-150/DSII/B1800Ha to try some higher resolution images. The first region was the large disorganized region that has been visible in recent days as it starts to move towards the western limb:

The final image is the larger of the proms on the NW limb..the long exposures needed for the eastern group did survive the poor seeing:

A quiet day for activity, but always great to get out to observe and image.

Great set of captures Brian. I was out looking yesterday but the clouds were making things difficult.

Thanks Mark :bow

Cloud and snow have returned this morning, but at least one day was good this weekend for astronomy (clouded out last night too).

I really enjoyed the faint prom in the east Brian, it is always exciting to find such a faint prom which can only be seen when cranking up the camera exposure. It is like a hidden secret :hamster: :bow

Eric and Alexandra...

Thanks for your comments, they are always very much appreciated :bow

Alexandra, I was hoping the faint eastern group would have came up better in the larger scope but all the settings and focal lengths failed to work. I should have used the barlow on the LS80T now that I think about it :?
