Feb 16th Session
Good day everyone...
I had a beautiful clear winter day on Saturday and spent the morning at the scope grabbing images and testing out a few configurations of hardware. The big 'dinosaur' filament continued to be the main attraction as it rotated further onto the solar disk, and this region showed nice activity in CaK, but only a limited amount of activity in WL. There was a small filament tuft on the SW quadrant and a few small proms...seeing was poor (typical winter conditions), so attempts to image them did not pan out.
The first image is a full disk/limb composite through the DS LS80T/LS75FHa/B1200Ha, with the limb inverted: I added the 3x tele-extender ahead of the camera to grab some higher resolution images since the smaller aperture dedicated solar scope tends to do well on the less than ideal seeing: Full disk images in WL and CaK were taken through the Stellarvue 110, using a Lunt solar wedge/Baader Continuum and Lunt CaK wedge (B1800CaK)+Baader K-Line filter: The big filament tempted me to image through the modded CR-150/DSII/B1800Ha scope, and assembled this 2 frame mosaic of the NE limb: This covers the solar session and I have included a few images taken through the day form the yard. Below is a shot of the observatory nestled in the snow: During breakfast we had a few squirrels scouring for seeds the birds spilled from the feeder and a hairy woodpecker visiting as well. There was frost on the tree branches with sunlight reflecting the low sun...looking like small lights on the trees. I tried to grab a few images and found the screen on the window made a diffraction like spike pattern. The last image is the gibbous moon taken early Saturday evening through the C9.25HD (@ f7) and the Canon 60D DSLR: Questions and comments are always welcome,
Brian

Re: Feb 16th Session
Phil, Alexandra, Matt, Franco, and Rainer...
Thanks to all for your comments and feedback on the solar work and the other weekend pics. Always appreciated
As for the wildlife, there is a rabbit that visits very early in the morning too...under the bright moonlight last night it was readily visible. It had a litter of little ones in the flower bed last spring, maybe more this year?
Matt...the temps reported from Australia on the news have been wild, really hard to relater to that much heat for so long! Our niece has been working on a job placement in Canberra since around Christmas, and I warned here to be ready for the heat before she left. She is to head back with the next week, so we will hear all about her adventures next family get together.
