AR12735 through a 6" refractor and QUARK Chromosphere. REPROCESSED image!

Post by Valery »

Hi all,

A newly born AR12735 as it was seen yesterday March 18.

SkyWatcher 150mm F/5 telescope + TV 2x Powermate + Quark Chromosphere yields final F/43 at the etalon.
Quark's CWL Ha was at -3clicks (counterclockwise). 0,7x reducer and Basler ASA1920-155 camera. 150fps.
3000frames recorded 2500frames stacked. Processed in AS2!, AstraImage 3.0 Pro + PS CS6.

Seeing was average with some improvements.

Thanks for looking.

Excellent image Valery, it came out well. Is your seeing not as good as you would like if you're only using the 6" scope?

That's a good one! Thanks for showing it. Cloudy here until Thursday at least.
As Mark alluded to, when are the big guns coming out again?

Thanks Valery.

The reason is that my personal 11" filter has been sold. I am waiting for finishing of my next sample (3-rd generation) of the 11" DERF.
May be I will start to use my C14 scope. We will see.

To be honest, the earliest spring time when I can meed excellent seeing with larger apertures is the end of the first decade of April, not right now.

The C14 will be limited to 12" aperture.

Hi Valery,

Why are you limiting your C14 to 12" aperture?

Hi Alfred,

The reason is simple: available filter is 12" in diameter.

Hello,

im new here in this Forum, had to register when i was reading this:
"SkyWatcher 150mm F/5 telescope + TV 2x Powermate + Quark Chromosphere yields final F/43 at the etalon."

is it true, you can add up powermate and quark telecentrics for to effectively reach such high f-ratios at the Quark Etalon?

im considering to move from my 100 f/7 ed refractor to this popular 150mm f/5.9 refractor..(https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/pr ... ctive.html)

still unsure what to chose as it should be lightweight and compact.. but still at least f/7 would be great..

so a 150mm f/5 would have no problems with coma etc. as i see.. the result looks great. would you recommend that f/5 + 2x powermate "solution"?

many thanks in advance.

Welcome here, Dennis

With a 152mm aperture the first you will need is a full aperture ERF (energy rejection filter)* .

The telescope TS 152 F/5.9 is even better than my 150mm F/5. You need to check it for objective quality.
Such fast telescopes often suffer from lenses decentering causing coma.

For F/5 refractor the TV powermate 2x + Quark is an excellent solution. For F/5.9 + 2x is excellent solution too, just use a bit less power eyepieces or a bit more reduction when imaging.

When you will buy the telescope, come here again and you will get a help how to configure your telescope for best results.

You may be will want to jump to 8" aperture with 8" SCT ? A jump from 100mm to 200mm will be more justifying than to 152mm.

Hi Valery,

thanks, and for the info.

yes, i was thinking of a 8"sct with a full aperture d-erf, appearently you have made experiences with such designs.
this is in fact very tempting, because lightweight, big aperture and compact and versatile(only with d-erf, not the baader tri-band series). still i have reservations against a mirror system for h-alpha because of the nature of mirrors producing more straylight than lenses. have to see more pictures and results with such systems.

i have a quark chromo with the 4.3x telecentric and i dont want to change it for a combo because after 4 testing different quarks i like this etalon : )
another problem with high f-ratios (higher than f/35) seems to be the reducing after the quark. i live in a urban area so my seeing is limited here :/

i have a 0.5x reducer but of course it produces spheric aberations.. and besides the baader telecompressor (and its difficulties to adapt it to the quark) i dont know anything else that works.

anyway, this forum is very inspiring for me as i see i am not the only "solar junkey" around.

best regards
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Here only two samples (and I have plenty of them) of sun pictures in high resolution. They were taken Sept 7 2017 with my
11" Celestron SCT and full size DERF filters and Quark Chromosphere + 0,7x reducer and Basler 1920-155 camera.

I believe you will not find any picture with refractor which will compete with them.

I aslo can tell you, that I have zero problems with mirros/refrections etc in SCT used with my ARIES DERF filters and Quarks.

With 8" all must be at leat easier than with 11".

I belive that the swet spot in solar telescopes is 11" SCT with a full size filter. Very powerful and very compavt and lightweight.

8" size is very good too, especially for transportable setup.

ok i think i am convinced ^^

so i guess i will save money for a c8 (https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/pr ... RANGE.html)

and the 200mm clear aperture Aries D-ERF Filter of your company. Are they still available and how much is one for the c8? Didnt find a website.

With the quark i will be at f/43 then.. hope i can tame that with a reducer.
