AR12736, Lunt BF1200ST and a BF question
Tried the new BF1200 on my Lunt-modified 104mm achromat by imaging the two active regions that have just disappeared beyond the limb. I preferred the straight-through version which I think is more versatile than the diagonal as it can be used in both modes. It comes with a 2" nose however a 1.25" nose is available separately and is the same as the 1.25" nose on the LS50 B600 diagonal.
I'm looking for a new BF for my Quark as I am not satisfied with the original one. Does anyone know if Coronado BF's can be used with Quarks ? (Lunt's are too dark).

Lovely setup; would love to know more about how you modified the Lunt 50mm to work in your tube like that (such as what modifications, what ERF, etc).
As for your question, I think a coronado filter will work, but the Quark uses Andover HA filters as the blocking filter. You can buy them individually on their website, I think the 12mm version is what fits.

the mod is described here. It requires a Lunt LS50, FT focuser, some adapters and a front D-ERF, mine is a Baader 110mm masked to 104mm by its metal frame that fits on the cell. Oh, and a lot of backfocus for the reasons explained in the link.
I know the Quark BF is sell byAndover, however trying the device with a Lunt BF (instead of the original one) I noted a marked improvement in contrast and detail, so I am curious to try another BF to see the results.

Very similar to my set up with an LS80 DSII unit on my 155mm refractor, then a second focuser. Then a Quark chromosphere. And a D-ERF in front.
Raf, I assume the LS50 PT unit has incoming and outgoing collimating lenses?
When you ask about the Quark blocking filter, the goal would be to remove the native Quark blocker and use that use this other blocker in its place? Specifically on this scope or in general for the Quark?

Thanks George. The Lunt should have collimating and refocusing lenses, I am using the PT module as it is, the optical train is as your one.
I removed the BF of my Quark (very simple, indeed) and using the device with the Lunt BF there is a marked improvement in contrast and details. Unfortunately Lunt BF's are quite dark but I read somewhere that Coronado BF are brighter, so I would be curious to try one.

Probably an older Quark? There is a security screw that does not allow the black body and telecentric to be removed. That screw should be unscrewed first, but it has that security torx(?) model. Tried a few but could not get anything to fit.I removed the BF of my Quark (very simple, indeed)

The BF can be removed from the bottom of the device by unscrewing the retaining ring, no need to open the Quark.

That's a really nice result Raf! I guess you could try a coronado blocker, however it would need to be ahead of the quark to keep thermal load off the system.

Noop, unfortunately not true anymore. That retaining ring is fixed with an ugly screw. You can unscrew the 2'" and 1.25" pieces, but not the the part that holds the telecentric and bf. (been discussed earlier on the forum, but couldnt find it.The BF can be removed from the bottom of the device by unscrewing the retaining ring, no need to open the Quark.

Thanks Mark, yes, my purpose is to insert the Quark in the diagonal BF.
Paul, this is the bottom of Quark and Quark Combo to remove the BF I have simply to unscrew that little black metal ring that hold the BF in place. There are no screws and the BF is separated from the telecentric.

Found it now, but there is fairly amount of glue used to seal the ring.
Was referring to this one if you want to take out the telecentric.
newer versions DayStar protected some removal. That screw goes through the thread of the retaining ring (i suppose) impossible just unscrewing the black ring.

Thanks Alexandra and Stu. I must admit that sometimes I get the impression that in our images the chromosphere looks a bit too much like a very large ball of wool, this is the reason why I prefer to image in CaH and in WL
