Very nice John! How are you finding the Mg Quark? I fancy one myself.

looks like other metal lines
easier to see visually
although a bit subdued in intensity
i was surprised that i recorded a prom
even a faint one
i find using a Polarizing filter
rotated to optimal position increases contrast
got a good deal at neaf

Good additions John, the Mg kinda looks like a lower contrast Ca image.

yup a subdued metal line but i like it
easy to see even more than caH line

the spectrograph verifies what mg filter sees and visa versa

I am tempted by the Mg quark I have to say John. I think especially when we get more into the new solar cycle these views could be pretty interesting.

Very nice catch on that prom! Amazing. What size scope was the Mg on?

At NEAF, I thought the Mg on the small refractor looked more like a good white light view than even a calcium view (e.g., the two active regions were bright enough in CaK but not visible to me in Mg). But your images show more. DayStar warned me that they thought it was more for imaging and processing than for observing, and that it generally needed a bigger scope to see well.

George

WO apo 66mm F5.7
I think Mg is good both visually and photo
I use polarizing filter for more image contrast
of course proms are almost impossible to see in all other wave lengths except Ha , Hb

unless they are flare types

I was happy that I did pick up prom in Mg although very faintly
