Prom Animation Wed 19th

Post by Carbon60 »

Well.....the forecast wasn't great and I had all but written off the day before it had started, expecting maybe a little Sun late in the afternoon. As it turned out, the skies cleared and we've had a superb day of sunshine....ALL DAY!

Seeing others producing excellent animations on the forum and, given the clear, long-term sunny sky coming in from the west, I thought I'd try one myself.

This is my effort. 1hr duration, taking images once every minute on my 150mm modified DS Lunt 35.

That came out well Stu! Glad you had sunshine for so long. I'm hoping to grab some early morning sun these next couple of days, looks like we might be going into a better weather window.

A beautiful result, Stu. What are the exposure settings and how many frames do you shoot for each image ? I would like to try one too, if I get the right weather...

Wow!!!! you got sunshine all day, my goodness what a cloud sink hole Cheshire is :( it was cloudy all day yesterday and still cloudy today (with added drizzle). What a lucky day and what a brilliant prom animation, lots of plasma rain and beautiful spicule activity :bow :bow :bow

Many, many thanks everyone. I was pleased that this came out okay. The seeing conditions were somewhat variable over the hour.

It’s amazing how fast the spicules change minute to minute, especially given the scale of these things.

Hi Franco,

Not sure setting info will help as it’s so dependent on the specific equipment used. I just adjust the exposure time, gain and contrast gamma until I get the most detail with the shortest exposure time and minimal noise.

I took 10s exposures every minute. The frame count was about 660. I used 10% stacking in AS!3

Hope this helps.

Great animation, Stu. Too bad there wasn't a larger prom to capture, but the detailed spicule action is great.
