Videos of Quark number two

Post by Starry Jack »

So conceptually I am enjoying my new Quark chromosphere and new ZWO ASI174mm. At f27 native there are hints of terrific detail when the seeing permits. Using a focal reducer gives satisfying views of the disk at medium resolution.

Here are links to three videos testing what I perceive as uneven illumination.

The first video is a general tour around the sun. Nice surface and a large flare: https://youtu.be/q6BQptmLMEI

The second video is when I twirl the quark and keep the camera still. Notice the illumination patterns in the background moving: https://youtu.be/vGp-2QrEfVA

The third video is when I twirl the camera and keep the Quark still: https://youtu.be/tTalXaun36E

My question is, should I be happy and try and remove the inconsistencies with flat field or should I exchange for a third quark?

152mm f6.5, Aeries DERF, ASI174mm, UV-IR cut filter, Focal reducer (shortest distance to chip,...no spacers on the reducer).

Let me know if the videos came out ok if you look. In some test equipment the videos are clear, on others poor.

Looks like that is a much better Quark Jack, difficult to comment on detail as maximum resolution I can get in youtube is 480p.

Thanks, Mark. I will produce a higher res YouTube video.

Your wisdom is appreciated. Gotta say again, I’m enjoying the new approach for me.

Hi Jack...

Too bad these was so little detail to see the Quark in action, but I would think that a flat would even the FOV up very nicely.

Thank you all for your comments. I feel optothen that the quark is ok.

I've created 1080p videos if you care to look.

https://youtu.be/m4xEocoJW6k Tour the Sun 1080p
https://youtu.be/9O3tt94v7Vo Spin the Camera 1080p
https://youtu.be/wcws4cSwonI Spin the Quark 1080p

The optics train is:
D-ERF
152 mm f6.5
2" diagonal
UVIR CUT filter
Quark Chromosphere
2" Mallincam Focal Reducer (close to camera...no nosepiece so not a full 2x reduction)
ASI174mm

Best,
Jack

Looks good. You should be able to flat out any banding etc no problem.
