August 1st Ha Set

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

Finally making some progress on 4 days of imaging...back to work tomorrow so I hope to get these cleaned up as soon as I can.

The first views on Thursday through the LS80T (single stack mode) did not show a lot of details, so I took time to experiment with other OTA's and filter options. The first image was through the single stack LS80T/B1200Ha with the PGR camera with the ICX674 chip:

I had been wanting to test out the Quark Combo as a DS etalon with the LS80T (2x tele-extender between the two), and when I set the system up it did produce a reasonable DS image (no flats applied so its pretty ugly). After boosting the exposure time a number of small proms became visible and a larger one on the SE limb showed the most promise. Below is a disk/limb composite with this system:

The next setup I put together was to mount the LS75FHa etalon on the front of my Stellarvue 110 scope and DS it with the Quark Combo and 2x Telextender. This system surprised me as it produced some nice images once I had it tuned. The images below are multi frame mosaics that cover the northern 2/3 of the disk...some variation in seeing makes an even mosaic tough to finish. These were captured with the ZWO 1600MM camera:

The dew shield on this scope does not 'lock' tightly, so I had to add another tube ring to hold it...shown below with the LS75 installed with a home brew ABS pipe fitting adapter. It worked :o

I changed the tele-extender to the 3x model and swapped the camera over to the ZWO 174MM in order to focus in on the SE prom. A lot of the arc was faint, but I hoped that it would come out in the processed images. I was happy with the results considering that the seeing was starting to tank in the late morning heat. These are disk/limb composites and the second mono image has the limb inverted to enhance the prom:

That's all from this session...Friday continued the OTA experiments!!!

A great set there Brian, it's always fun to experiment with different combinations to see what works. Glad you've got a good run of imaging in like that.

I really like the 2/3 disc, perfect tuning, also the prominence shot is very nice indeed and you did well as it looked faint :bow I definitely need to chase the faint ones better than I have previously :)
