HR granulation with the 300 mm Newtonian - 15 & 16 Aug

Post by christian viladrich »

Dear All,

Here are some more images taken at St Véran with the 300 mm Newtonian.

August 15th, with the 396-5 nm filter. There is an incredible variety in the granulation cells. Some are very dark. In some parts, the intergranular region is very dark too :

August 16th, with the 396-5 nm :

Back to the K-line :

The solar limb with the polar faculae announcing the beginning of the new cycle (well ... we hope so...). At the bottom right of the image, we can see that faculae are the indeed the side part of granular cells.
Granulation is visible to the limb. It looks like inverse granulation (intergranular region brighter than the cells) :

Best regards

Exquisite granulation images, Christian. Are the darker cells as a result of reduced convection in those regions, maybe?

Remarkable images Christian!

Are you using an ERF or is it a solar newton?

The granulation is absolutely gorgeous but I think the polar faculae image is my favourite. When you look closely it looks like there are little jets going upwards from the faculae regions, what do you think?

Thanks !
Alexandra, I am contacting a friend who is a specialist of solar physics. I hope to have more information.
