A small flare on a quiet sun. 280mm scope

Post by Valery »

Hello all,

Here is image of a hot plasma in a small solar flare in a spotless small active area (AR).

Equipment used: ARIES full size front mounted dielectric energy rejection filter (DERF) + second hand C11 280mm F/10 standard SCT + PST etalon + PST 5mm Blcoking filter + PGR Flea3 ICX445 b/w camera.

To see the image in a full resolution, right click on it and choose to open in a different window.

Valery,

Absolutely stunning! Incredible sub arc second resolution. This rivals many professional images I have seen.

I always look forward to your work, Valery. This is a very fine image.

A question: Is the small size of the blocking filter an important part of your technique. If I reduce the size of my blocking filter with similar optics and camera sensor, would the image improve (assuming seeing is good). Thanks.

No Lou,

Larger BFs are better. The goal was to show to peoples that even such an inexpensive ultranarrowband equipment as the innards of a PST telescope is absolutely sufficient for obtaining such results in solar high resolution imaging.
And at the cost of a small dedicated solar telescope one can obtain the possibility to image the sun with contrast and resolution which greatly surpass the abilities of these dedicated solar telescopes.
