October 18th Sun and Landscapes

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

The clouds parted during my lunch yesterday so I took a few minutes to check the sun and it looked typical of the recent views...little disk activity and some faint proms. I setup to do some full disk imaging, but after seeing the proms decided to try some high res work as well.

The fist image is a full disk composite of separate disk and limb images (limb inverted), taken through the LS80T/DSII/B1200Ha and the PGR camera. The proms are the primary feature, through there is a hint of a filament on the NE quadrant :

I was short of time, but wanted to try the proms with more folcal length, so I added the 3x tele-extender to the optical path and changed to the ZWO 174MM camera for the images below:

The weather has certainly turned to fall here, with daytime highs not reaching 10C the past few days, and frosts at night. We had heavy rain and strong winds on Wednesday and Thursday which stripped a lot of the leaves off the trees, so the fall colours are blowing along the ground now ;) Below are a few images I took on Friday afternoon in the sugar bush which still have a bit of colour:

With the heaviest frost of the season predicted for last night I picked the remaining apples...a nice crop of Russets for snacks over the next few weeks:

That covers the images form Friday...I hope to get more time out this afternoon once I get home from work to enjoy the beautiful fall sun :P

Lovely solar shots there. Liking the landscapes too - the contrast with the blue skies and autumnal colour of the leaves is nice.

Thanks for the comments Mark !!!

I find something 'special' about each season, but autumn has to be the prettiest with all the rich colours.

Nice. I'm beginning to like your landscapes almost as much as the excellent FDs and proms.

Thanks Phil, appreciate the feedback :bow

The solar is always fun to work and share, but so much more in the environment that catches my eye as well. Glad you (and others) like the extra photos.

A very nice set, Brian. Love the colors of the season: here we do not have frost yet but we are close to it.

Terrific Brian, this very post is exactly why Stephen changed the name to Sunlit Earth. The particular shot where the Sun shines through the trees show so many things, how our atmosphere refracts sunlight so we see the blue sky, how it illuminates the Earth and shines through different chemicals in the leaves to bring out all the other colours of starlight, wonderful :hamster: the regular image of our star is fab too :)

Franco, Mark, Eric, and Alexandra...

Thanks so much for the feedback on the solar work and the likes for the nature images too :bow

Alexandra, as pretty as these landscape pics are they show how rooted everything in our lives in influenced or controlled by the sun. Our food supply, weather, all energy (save nuclear, it's one supernova earlier in another suns life cycle), and so on. So few realize how it plays with everything we do on our little blue ball called Earth ;) On that note, enjoy a little liquid sunshine supplied by the maple trees!!!
