I was thinking about the type you screw on to the front of a lens that is safe to view the Sun.

Baader solar film then is the best value option.

Hi,

I have two Thousand Oaks White LIght filters and thay are great for DSLR. You get them already with a aluminum frame which can be ordered to fit the lens. Mine are coated glass filters and they look like a mirror.

BTW Under 500 mm focal length with a DSLR is not much to see.

The images below were shot with a DSLR and that is the color the Thousand Oaks filter gives.

I just made a Baader solar film filter using a Lens hood. You can buy lens hoods which fit your camera. They are blank and if you cut a small piece of Baader film and mount it into two small rings of cardboard and then slip it inside the front of the hood. Then you can just screw the hood on whenever you want to view the Sun in WL. I took all my analemma shots this way and it cost around £20 to make. Pity I don't have a picture of it, never mind.

Thanks Montana, I have some solar film and will try as you say, have you any pics yet as I learn a lot more from seeing something rather than, with my limited imagination, trying to visualise.
