Forum upgrades finally completed. sort of
So, heeding user requests I decided to upgrade the forum and add some features. With such a gigantic database it’s always a risky adventure and this time was no different.
We upgraded the PHPBB software to the latest 3.3+ version, Installed a bunch of cool options like a thank you button and social media sharing, etc., And had everything done in short order, at least we thought so.
Turns out that are hosting service, Network Solutions, was unable to update our version of PHP from 7.0 to 7.3 or higher so the new forum did not work at all. lol
The consultant was able to go in and save the forum by reverting back to an intermediate version 3.2.8 which got the forum back up and running.
We then added a “thank you” button on each post in every topic and social media sharing icons on every post.
If you click the three dots in the box to the right of the post title you will access a drop down menu which will allow you to “thank” the poster. This will keep track of the number of “likes” or “thank yous” as requested by some users. (you won’t see the same options in your drop-down menu as I do because I am the administrator of the forum)
The social media sharing icons are listed in each post and will share that post only to whatever social media platform you like to use. I have zero control over whether or not this works on your particular social media platform once you get to their page.
until Network Solutions allows an upgrade to its hosting service PHP version, this is as high as we can go.
