Small study of the sun's surface. May 21, 2020
Hello everyone.
Here is a small surface study.
Redcontinuum and Cak.
Red and blue wings.
Doppler effect and both filters in line.
Red wings and Ha line.
In line again the obligatory prominences.

The Doppler effect is the temporal compression or expansion of a signal when the distance between transmitter and receiver changes during the duration of the signal.
In hydrogen alpha, this means that two wavelengths appear on one image. This effect is very interesting when there are flares. Then you can see not only the line but also fine filaments, usually running across an off-band line.
This is done with a double stacked system. One etalon in line is the second outside the line. For example in blue wings.

Nice sets of comparison images. Am I right to say that all the "lines" show the regions where there is doppler effect and you are showing only some of them?

Only one of the pictures shows the Doppler effect. The others are correspondingly in the hydrogen alpha line or offband. The Image Doppler effect shown shows the chromosphere somewhat more transparently. If there were an element from another line, it would be additionally visible in this image, as on the image with the flare.

A stunning collection Jozef I had forgotten how enjoyable it is to look at the wings in Halpha, I must try that again, although I can only get the blue wing with my tilt etalon.
