7Jun - AR 2765 in HA & WL - new image added on 13June

Post by yltansg »

It has been raining for several days. The morning started with tons of clouds. Then we had some blue in between clouds. Taking a break from trying to resolve the reflection in the CAK image, I did some HA and WL imaging with the following setup:

Image

Here is an image of AR2765:

Image

It was made from stacking 1000 frames. The settings in Firecapture, using an ASI174: Exposure: 3.148ms, Gain : 25554, Gamma : 3.34. Processing was done with ImPPG with the usual tone curve stretch and minimal touch-up (contrast and level adjustments) in Photoshop. It is one of the cleanest images taken today.

Alfred, a very nice result with just few holes in the clouds to work with.

Beautiful Alfred! really beautiful :bow :bow :hamster:

How did you get on in white light? I didn't know you could use a Herschel wedge on an SCT.

Only if you use the DERF too.

Thank you for your kind comments, Peter, Arne, Eric, Dan, Rod, Rainer, Mark, Mark, James, Terry, Alexandra and Jochen.

James - Solaris is one of our groups in School. Of course they are glad that solar telescopes are available for all to use.

ALexandra and Mark, Yes, I used the ARIES D-ERF (stepped down to 220mm) and a x5 powermate with the Herschel wedge. Unfortunately the clouds came in and covered the whole sky. I only managed to capture 1 shot on the background. Did not manage a shot on the active regions.

This is that one WL image:

This is the other active region in the northern hemisphere that may not have attracted the same attention:

It is mosaic of 2 images.

Thanks Mark and Franco. Unfortunately the weather went south and no chance to do any more imaging of these 2 ARs.

Thanks Stuart, Marios and Pedro.

Stuart, although we have the rainy season, there are always windows of good seeing if I am patient enough to catch one.

My C11 is left on the mount and covered with canvas (a 3-layer covering) when not in use.

Image

With this setup (leaving the C11 outside under a 3-layer covering), it is a bit tricky because the humidity is usually high and it becomes worse during the raining season. However this setup has worked well for me and the equipment has retained its condition well with regular maintenance.

I wonder if there if any of you leave your telescope on the mount (covered of course) when not in use. Our humidity varies from sixties to nineties percent.

Hi Alfred,
The humidity can be the worst part of the damp-problem - if not able or willing to bring the gear inside.
I use a dehumidifier in my observatory to keep the damp at bay, with typical humidity of 40%, which at least dries out any dampness after the roof is closed after a session days or nights...

Before completion of my observatory, the stand and it's electrics were covered-up like your photos for over two years with no degradation, but not the scope or mounts...

Cheers
Terry

Alfred great pics .My scopes stay on their mounts but are wheeled out of the shed. I,ll admit though that I am only just starting to get back into solar viewing and photography after a couple of slack years. My biggest problem is the shed computers pack it in.So now its a laptop.
I have been very impressed with your images and it seems you have got your setups wrking extremely well.

Lovely WL and H alpha additions, Alfred.
My mount stays outside and is covered but I'm not bold enough to leave the scopes outside!
Cheers.
