June 11, 2020 AR12765 using Questar/Quark + June 12

Post by Astrophil » Thu Jun 11, 2020 8:33 pm

Hi All,

Another clear morning, what a nice surprise. Today I took the little Questar out from the shadows, where it has been hiding for many months, and showed it the sun. Attached to the axial port was a 2.5x Powermate followed by the Quark Combo a .5x focal reducer and PGR camera. A Baader DERF was mounted on the front.

With only one main target, AR12765, and with no clouds it did not take very long to capture all the videos I needed. I had seen Questar imagers using the built in diagonal and eyepiece port on the scope to image so I thought I'd give it a try. It seemed a bit unwieldy to stick the Powermate, Quark, and camera into the eyepiece port. I can see how image orientation can get a little confusing.

The first image is the normal axial setup. The rest of the images were taken from the eyepiece port without proper orientation unfortunately.

Phil

Hi Phil,

The details are incredible coming from a small scope. It is fits its reputation in the hands of an expert.

Would be nice to see a photo of your setup with the Questar.

Phil,
Your images show incredible depth as well as sharpness! And what type/brand of mount is your setup mounted on?

Another day with the Questar/Quark Combo setup. This time I tried three different scales using the .5x focal reducer with an additional 5mm spacer attached. This produced the maximum field of view with all four corners being cut off. I had to reduce the ROI to avoid vignetting. The first image is with the reducer plus the spacer, next is with the spacer removed and lastly with no focal reducer. Two inverted images are included to show a nearby prom.
