June 26 2020 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Temp 76 degrees. Seeing is around average. Skies are partly to mostly cloudy with a lot of high thin clouds. I observed from 10:30am to noon EDT local time ( US ).

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I got a total of three small prominences today. Two small ones on the NW limb and another small one with a southward lean to it on the NE limb. GONG Big Bear shows a large but faint prominence on the SW limb but try as I might I just cannot see it with the SM60. If I had the time today I would set the SM 90 up. I would bet it would reveal it. I see two small plage areas today on the NW quadrant of the Sun. I also see three faint filaments on the NW sun. A 4th I can see way down near the SE limb. It is not exactly easy either. The Spicule mottling is seen across the entire disc.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I see a single Facula corresponding to the southernmost of the plages seen in the Coronado. And within I see a bonus. A little dark pore! :hamster: I can see fine granulation across the disc so the seeing must be better than yesterday.

James

Nice report, James.

That prom on the SW limb was really faint. I tried imaging it yesterday (80ED) and even that was a challenge (ended up ditching the data because it didn't look good).

Nice report James, good to see a bit of activity again, even if small scale.

A very interesting report James, glad to hear of the pores, you must have had excellent seeing in the gaps :hamster: imagine what the 90mm would have been like :)

Alexandra,
I have had overcast skies all day today and did not get to follow up on that pore. The SDO Continuum image shows it is still there but will rotate off the limb soon if it persists.

Hi James,

Are you referring to this AR in the south-western region?

Alfred,
Yes, in the SW region. This I think may be a different AR than the one I saw on the 26th. It is in the SW while the other was north of it. I didn't notice that until I saw it on the magnetogram image you posted.
