2020-07-12 - The sun is back (HA)

Post by JochenM » Sun Jul 12, 2020 7:24 pm

After a period of horrible weather, the sun made its reappearance here today towards the evening. In other words, get the scope out while it lasts. Conditions were not great (quite hazy still), so I stuck to HA (couldn't get CaK even remotely sharp on the preview; so didn't bother) with the 80ED.

Quite a few sizeable filaments across the disk, but the star of the show was a fairly faint but huge prominence on the south eastern limb. It was evolving rapidly though. The image you see below was shot at the very beginning of my session; towards the end it had shrunk down considerably.

Setup: 80ED, Quark Chromosphere, 35nm Baader H-Alpha filter, IMX174.

As always, thanks for looking!

Hello Jochen,
Some excellent images after your weather and the prom is well captured.
Too much thin high cloud here for anything useful to see/image...
Cheers
Terry
