Session time is between 12 noon and 1:15pm EDT local time ( US ). The temp is 75F at noon and the skies are mostly cloudy. Seeing is rough.
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha ).
The first thing I notice besides the ever present mottling is a small filament in the NE quadrant of the Sun. Looking around I see a second in the far south. I see just a bare hint of the bright plage seen yesterday in the SE. I had to fine tune and look close to see it as all and even then it is more of a tiny disturbance now than a plage. I see no sign of AR12771 or AR12772 in Ha or WL. The SDO shows a AR coming in on the NE limb but I could not see a trace of it either in Ha or WL. I could faintly see a tiny prom very near where the new AR is coming onto the limb though. The sun is really calm today.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 62.5x ( WL )
Cue ball blank. Granulation hinted.
All while listening to " The Kick Inside " by Kate Bush.
Carpe Lumen!

Re: August 23 2020 Observations
About as blank as I have ever seen the Sun but your excellent observations support what I often tell my friends; there is always something to see in Ha if you have a reasonable aperture and the patience to look!
Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Re: August 23 2020 Observations
Mike,
Imaging seems to dominate here on SolarChat and there is nothing wrong with that. For me there is nothing like seeing it visually with the eyes the Lord gave me. I have learned that most of the features images show can be seen visually, except maybe for the near ultraviolet CaK wavelength. And yes it certainly takes patience. I hope in time to go forward into imaging but even then it will be used as a tool to support my visual work, not to replace it. Visual first, imaging second.
For as long as I am able and my scopes work and SolarChat is here I will share my observations and experiences. Thank you!

I always enjoy reading your observations James, sometimes you pick up on the most subtle details the Sun is pretty quiet though

Re: August 23 2020 Observations
Thank You Alexandra. I am always hoping for a little more contrast and a little better seeing to help me out plus the GONG network and Solarchat members images help me know where to look for current features.
The sun has gone quiet. My skies are cloudy today.
