August 22 FD CaK H-alpha AR12772

Post by LeoD »

Hi,
this is the first light of the Lunt CaK 1800 star diagonal module I received on Friday. Before I use Baader K-line only and I'm very impressed now! :D :D
A full disk in a prime focus is of 2 images, because of 174 sensor.
Close up of the same AR made with similar scale: CaK with TZ-4 telecentric (seems works Ok in Ca also, but with a central reflection spot that I'll try to get rid later) and H-alpha with QuarkChromo. Another H-alpha is AR12772 near NW limb. 130mm.
I'm curious now how to protect in a better way Ca filter from direct sunlight in case of a larger aperture and to narrow a bandwidth
regards
Leo

Impressive set of images Leo.
The Lunt CaK unit is a great bit of kit and I'm sure you will be blown away once you use it on a disc with more features. My unit is the CaK1200 and I use it with a Tal 100mm f10 most of the time. In poor seeing I step it down to 80mm or even 60mm but on good days I use 100mm and a x2 or, on very good days, even x2.5 Powermate when it shows superb detail.

Very nice images with excellent detail. I love the FD CaK image and that filament shows well in that SE AR. It's all but gone today.

New toys are always exciting!

As far as using the module in larger apertures (up to 150mm); I personally just put a Baader Blue CCD filter in front of it (acting as a small ERF if you will). Works just fine.

Wonderful to see the excitement of seeing the Sun in a different light, your close ups show just what this super instrument can do :bow :hamster:
I agree with Jochen as I use the Baader blue too.

Thank you so much :)
I was so excited about the new toy that I exaggerated a bit with the x4 and not considered sampling at all. Despite a lousy seeing. :?
to Mike, Jochen and Alexandra: thanks, seems I could use any blue filter from LRGB set, couldn’t I? I see also about K-line in front of or even instead of front part of Lunt CaK module in the "newton T300" thread here at SC.
