October 8 2020 Observations. A pore!

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Today's session is from 12:45pm to 1:40pm EDT local time ( US ). I have high clouds today and the seeing is a bit below average. The temp is 79F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I first off see two plages in the southern hemisphere. One in the SE and another very near the south-central part of the disc. I can see a filament to the west of the SC plage. The only other filament I see on the disc on the north-central disc. I can see two prominences. One on the NW limb and the other on the NE limb. The spicule mottling is visible across the disc but less than average seeing softens it up a bit.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 27.5x and 55x ( WL )
I can see one pore on the south central solar disc in the location of a plage located there. I cannot see the facular component to the AR/Plage. The SDO also shows pores in the other AR but I cannot pick them out visually today. Probably because the seeing is not that great. I can barely detect the granulation.

Carpe Lumen!

James

I first saw it on the Gong H-Alpha site (my computer desktop background is a live image of the H Alpha Network Monitor), then I looked at it with the Lunt. I tried imaging it; unfortunately, the quality was not great: operator skills or lack thereof.

Thanks James as usual for your excellent task of updates.

Yes Frank, these are quite small and not very dark (yet) but hopefully you will get a better opportunity.

James, I meant that my computer desktop uses the the link
http://halpha.nso.edu/
as wallpaper, and it is refreshed automatically. See screenshot below. I use a nice utility called Plash (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/plash/id1494023538?mt=12) on my mac.

Frank,
I have that one for GONG. Here is one for you. It’s really nice on the computer.

Use the gear to the upper left to choose different instrument views.

Check out Helioviewer. org as well.

Hi James,

Thanks for your regular updates. The weather has been poor for 2 months. Glad to have this forum and all the web resources. The activities in the Southern hemisphere are still there. Here is GONG HA image downloaded few moments ago:

Cheers.

Alfred,
It looks like both AR plages are still in the south and there are two decent proms on the NE limb. I see a filament in the NW too!

Thanks for the update!

James
