Oct 11th Session
Good day everyone...
It is the long, Thanksgiving Day weekend here and I had hopes for several days of astronomy given a favourable weather forecast late last week. A holiday weekend for some, but agriculture and astronomy both rely of good weather so I was working Saturday morning and missed the clear skies...clouds in the afternoon. Today, Monday, is cloudy as well but Sunday was a beautiful clear day and night so solar imaging by day and Mars imaging by night was available. The Sandhill Cranes a;so made for photo ops every day as well.
The clear skies on Sunday were not he best for seeing, but I still got some full disk images in Ha, CaK, and WL as well as higher resolution images in Ha. The first image below was taken through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha double stacked solar scope and the ASI174MM camera. This is a composite of separate disk and limb images...the inverted limb show the many small proms along the solar limb: I used the Stellarvue 100, f7 scope for the WL and CaK images below, both taken with an ASI1600MM camera. The WL was through a Lunt Solar Wedge/Baader Continuum Filter, and the small spots associated with AR 2775 are hard to see at this scale: The CaK image used a modded Lunt CaK Wedge/B1800CaK/Baader K-Line filter: The ASI174MM was used on the modded CR-150/DSII/B1800Ha solar scope with the AiryLab 2.7x Telecentric for the higher resolution images below. The two AR's and the bright prom on the NE limb turned out well, but the poor seeing and longer exposures failed to get usable images of the fainter proms: This cover the results of yesterdays solar harvest and working on the Mars images now.It may be cloudy but dry, so I'll have to stop and work at hauling firewood home form the sugar-bush while my son is home and willing to help
Questions and comments are always welcome.
Take care everyone,
Brian

Re: Oct 11th Session
My thanks to everyone for all your kind words and comments on the set of solar images. Always very much appreciated
A bit of a different Thanksgiving with the COVID social gathering limits and social distancing...the typical 20+ family member meals at my parents and in-laws was replaced by a meal at home with Sandy, Scott, and Madeline (as well as Scott girlfriend) with lots of left overs! A lot of produce from the garden was used too.
It was another good year for the family farm despite the record summer drought, and friends and family have stayed healthy and well throughout the ongoing pandemic. I suspect that we will be repeating this come Christmas and Easter next year too
On a good note, with the help of Sandy and Scott we manged to haul the firewood I cut in the spring back to the house from the sugar bush this afternoon...now I have to re-pile it The wood fire in the winter is always welcome and makes the work worthwhile!
Take care everyone,
Brian

Looks like you had a great session, Brian. Nice images.
