Mostly Ha Series on Oct 14th

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I was able to take advantage of the clear skies over lunch on Wednesday and was quite happy to see a new AR and many proms to image. Seeing was better than average which allowed more higher resolution images to be taken.

The first image is a composite of separate disk and limb images taken through the LS80T/LS75FHa/B1800Ha solar scope and and ASI174MM camera:

There we several targets for the modded CR-150/DSII/B1800Ha scope, using a 2.7x Telecentric ahead of the 174MM camera:

The relatively stable seeing allowed the images of the proms to turn out as well:

Before closing up the observatory I grabbed a full disk CaK image through the Stellarvue 110mm, f7 scope using the Lunt CaK Wedge/B1800CaK module and the ASI1600MM camera:

I was glad to get a chance to view and image since this is the most activity on the sun in some time :)

As always, questions and comments are welcome.

Brian

Great shots Brian! Try running that 110f7 at 60 or 70mm for the CaK FD, you're going to get a much better sampling rate with the camera without losing resolution on what you've got on the image above (f7 with that camera is really undersampling so you're not getting 110mm of resolution). You'll find stopping down will help with the seeing, will give a higher f-ratio at the filter and so higher contrast and you will get a considerably sharper image as SA will be considerably reduced. Win win all round...

Hi Mark...

Thanks for your comments on the images and the suggestion to make the 110 down for CaK.

I have been thinking of doing this, but not had time to make up the aperture mask. The other scopes I used for this had a 2 part dew cap with a smaller central opening but not this one. I think I can put something together easily...just need to do it ;)

Thanks,
Brian
