Sol from the last days of year 2020.

Post by eroel » Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:42 am

Hi:
Until today I was able to get in the Forum, I spent since the 21st of December till today (3rd of January 2021) at the Ranch where I have the rural observatory.
The Internet was down all the time, so could not wish all of you the best of X´mas as also the best for the new year, so excuse me.
I spent a lot of days getting most of the observatory working, though one PC is missing still, since I have not been able to send it to be fixed.
Seeing was very good for a few days, then it deteriorated from the 30th of December on.
Today me and Norma my wife are at home again and will keep trying to be safe from the Pandemia.
I was like a child looking at toys, when I cleaned most of the toperwares and boxes to find all my very old cameras, eyepieces, Barlows, turrets, reducers, heaters, filters, instructions, electronic parts, etc...
Here are some shots taken the 24th, 25th and 29th, most are with the 6" f/12 Astro-Physics refractor, fitted with a 2X Baader Telecentric and an old ATM Daystar Ha filter, and also the piggy backed 76mm Televue refractor fitted with the Coronado 40mm DS etalons and a BF30, I am amazed of the quality of those little Coronados that were hand picked by David Lunt himself, the give beautiful images.
Thanks for looking many shots, hope you like some.(I still have more from the rest of the days)
Best wishes to all and keep safe.
Eric.

Some of the finest images you have taken Eric, which show such fine detail of everything our Sun can show us.
Fantastic and Fabulous too.

First of all Eric, Merry Christmas and a very Happy and Healthy New Year!!

All these images are absolutely stunning and beautifully on band :hamster: :bow

A question I have for you, you mention you use a Baader U filter with your Calcium K, is that correct? as it blocks light above 380nm. I tried it today with Calcium K and the screen was black. I am just curious ;)

Friends, much appreciated comments.
Alexandra, I made a CaK modification from an old CaK PST, I took the etalon and installed it on an aluminium tube, first used the K Baader filter as a back filter, it gave a very dark image, so I changed and used the Baader Venus filter and it gives a better image.
Raf, it is a Daystar 0.45A° model ATM (Amateur Telescope Maker), Del Woods used to make also the University model it was better and much more expensive.
I mounted this filter in a tilter made by my friend David many years ago, so aside of having a heater, I can tilt it and get a better image.
Wish you all the best in this new year.
Eric.
