Sun at noon

Well I thought I would post what I was able to see at noon today, the sun made an attempt at appearing. This picture was taken through sunglasses and is my telescopes eye view. I can't move backwards any more because of the house and I can't move any further to the right either because of the house. Tomorrow I shall try the PST out of the upstairs bedroom window as the weatherman is promising a miracle.

Not tempted to take a run out somewhere with the scope in the car if tomorrow has blue skies?

I've just checked 4 different weather sites and they all now say something different, I think I'll wait till tomorrow and look out of the window.

You are very lucky Mark to have the next 2 weeks off, I really hope it will be sunny. My goal over Christmas is to take the 100mm somewhere for a trip to see the sun. If it is cloudy, sort out some sort of solar outreach plan, make some info pictures and get everything in order. It will be nice to have a rest too and catch up with stuff that I have been meaning to do but never got around too.

By the beginning of February the sun will be just above that tree again I can't wait!

me too I have four to kill, at least to shorten. Are you good with the chain saw? Oh, I have forgotten to say, that they are in the neighbour's garden . You may need a rifle too ;-)

Yes, that tree is in the neighbours garden, I would have to deal with the neighbours as well.

It's frustrating isn't it... Our garden runs east / west and originally our next door neighbour (and the next one up) had a row of conifers along the fence line. This meant we had no sun at all in our garden as from our perspective it blocked the southerly aspect, however we're all a friendly bunch in our row and I just approached them and said the trees were blocking all the light and if they were happy for me to get them cut down I would pay for it to get the job done. Fortunately my brother got his degree in countryside management and has a comprehensive armoury of chain saws - so bung him fifty quid, feed him a curry and a good bellyfull of beer and he was more than happy to come down and fell the trees.

As it happpens both neighbours had wanted rid of the trees for sometime so when I suggested it they were more than happy! we even got to keep the logs for our open fire - everyone was a winner. For the sake of a conversation and the price of an eyepeice (neighbours obliging!) it's possible to maximise the horizon. Get your neighbours round and show them the sun - this is always a good jedi mind trick subliminal approach to building upto the dreaded 'tree' conversation...
