February 19 2021 Observations
Posted: Fri Feb 19, 2021 6:24 pm
Session time is 11:30am until 12:45pm EST local time ( US ). Skies are partly cloudy with poor seeing. The temperature out is 43F.
Coronado SolarMax II 90 DS. 32x and 44.5x ( Ha )
I could pick out all the filaments shown on the GONG Cerro Tololo image. The best ones are located in the SE and SW part of the disc. I could also see a plage in the NE with a small filament within.
I could see all the prominences in the GONG image visually. One erect one near the emerging AR in the NE and another sloping one in the NW. The SE shows a fainter group of branching ones.
The mottles were soft today and fairly low of contrast. A result of the poor seeing. The limb shimmers in waves reducing detail in the prominences as well.
Celestron NexStar 102GT w/Altair wedge and 540nm filter. 55x ( WL )
I can easily see a facula in the NE near the limb. With a close look and waiting for brief moments of better seeing I can see three pores within it. One of the pores is difficult and separated from the other two. I can also see another patch of faculae in the SW near the limb.
The granulation is really soft today. The result of poor seeing.
Happy Observing!
James
