Session time is 11:00am until 12:30pm EDT local time ( US ). The skies are partly cloudy with below average seeing. The temperature is 45F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
Detail today came difficult. There isn't much to be seen. First off I notice two prominences on the solar limb. One in the NE and another easier one in the SW. The one in the SW is a part of a filament so is a filaprom! That is the only filament I can see on the disc. I can see the plage of AR12803 in the NE as a mere disturbance in the spicule field. Not exactly easy. The spicule mottling covers the disc but the contrast is low.

Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can only see one small pore in the NE. It's associated with AR12803. I cannot see it's faculae today. The solar granulation can only be hinted at.

I did get one not-so-good image of the mottling of the disc in Ha. No other details.

Good to see your report for today James!

Your WL image turned out well...not sure if the Ha image needed better tuning, but I'd expect to see the AR or filament. Still good to work up the leaning curve

There wasn't much more than the mottles to image on today's disc. My goal is to image filaments like Rainer does!

Thanks James, looking at the Ha image it isn't on band which is why you're not seeing the filaments...

I think the filament blew away according to Spaceweather so I think you missed it. I am sure many more will come along so that you can test your tuning. Lovely report and keep up the imaging

James, when you get some sunshine put only the single stack on the scope. Put the camera in, focus, and tune the etalon with the laptop facing you and keep turning the tuning until you see maximum surface contrast on the screen which will be the darkest setting. Check GONG to see if there is a good filament to really look for. When you have done that, place the DS on. This time start tuning and you will find you get maximum brightness (yes the opposite) and the filament will really pop out 3D. Then you will have a good imaging session.

It is much easier to tune with the camera on as you can stand by the etalon and just watch the screen changing.

I tried single stack today ( 2-24-21 ) and got much better discs, including filaments and active regions. Thank you very much!
