Sun in Ha and CaK 22nd Feb 2021

Post by Carbon60 » Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:03 pm

After a wet, cloudy, morning the afternoon sky opened up to become beautifully blue and almost cloudless.

Here are some images captured in Ha and CaK using, respectively, my DS Lunt 60 and Tecnosky 125 with a B1800 Lunt CaK filter (no additional filters were used this time around).

The full disk images show a three nice little 'hot spots' of activity, but more impressive is the large prom towards the south west. Here it is in close up, captured on my 150mm/Lunt 35 mod.

There are a couple of fainter proms in the south east, also captured using the same scope.

I was hoping to make an animation of the larger prom, but although the sky was perfect, I was starting to hit the various shadows cast by obstacles around my plot, namely trees and my neighbour's roof apex. Maybe next time.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

A lovely set of images Stu! The seeing stood up well with the big Ha scope.

Lovely captures Stu, I loved the structure of the South Western prom. I too managed to image it, you processed it very nicely. Thanks for sharing.

Many thanks, everyone. I really appreciate your comments.

I've re-processed the Ha FD with inverted proms, increasing the disk contrast.

Wow!! the last couple of high res proms shots are breathtaking, the detail is superb and all the little spicule points around the limb are delightful. The seeing must have been pretty good :hamster: :bow

Wonderful images, Stu! I love how smooth the transition is from the disc the prominence and how sharp the spicules are!

Best regards,
Arne
