Prom, AR's 2803 & 2804 | Discs in 395nm & CaK | Feb 22nd 2021

Post by MalVeauX » Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:38 pm

Heya,

These storms are relentless. Sigh. I was able to get a little window this late morning but could only get a bit of data before the rain came and shut it down for the day. It's amazing that when you want just 1 hour of uninterrupted sky time, you get 30 seconds here and there, once a week it seems. So much for "sunny Florida." Anyhow, interesting filaprom still on the south western limb, a new AR 2804 is forming in front of 2803, there's a small sunspot that is a bit larger than a pore and trying to develop a penumbra and umbra perhaps. Lots of neat activity going on in the plages areas in each active region.

Marty,
All your images are superb but again it's the superb resolution the 60mm aperture gives on that 395nm image. 0.7" on a 60mm refractor doesn't seem possible but I do realize it is because of the short wavelength that is being used here. That's easily more detailed than I could see visually in my 70mm refractor today.

This G and K band stuff you are doing is interesting. It boosts resolution way beyond what I thought was possible in a small scope.
