February 27 2021 Observations

Post by DeepSolar64 »

Session time is from 12:00pm until 1:00pm EST local time ( US ). The skies are partly cloudy. The seeing is fair. The temperature is 64F.

Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x and 21.5x ( Ha )
I can see two AR regions easily. AR12804 with it's spots in the NW and AR12805 in the SW. I can only glimpse AR12803 as a mere disturbance to the NE of AR12804. I noticed a bright area in both AR12804 and in AR12805 of similar size. They show up in the GONG Big Bear image too!

I can see only one filament on the whole solar disc. It's located in the far southwest. I can also see only one prominence. It's faint and is on the SW limb.

The mottles are of fair contrast today and cover the solar disc.

Astro-Tech AT72EDII w/Altair wedge. 21.5x and 43x ( WL )
I can see a total of seven spots in AR12804. A big lone one with a prominent penumbra and a fairly large one to it's north surrounded by 5 smaller spots/pores. The SDO continuum image shows them really well. The group is nearing the NW limb and will disappear around it soon. I see no other spots or pores on the solar disc. I can see the faculae to AR12804 and AR12805. I did not notice any faculae to AR12803.

I can see the fine solar granulation today.

Carpe Lumen!

James

Good report!

I watched AR2804 flare a few times this morning, nothing major, but man it was a bright little spot that rumbled.

Very best,

Very best,

Marty,
WoW, that was the bright spot I saw!? Did you notice anything in AR12805?

James

I didn't notice anything in particular with 2805. Just 2804, it had a persistent little flare rolling around its eastern facing pole; very bright little spot away from the sunspot on the western pole of the region.

I grabbed some data on it between clouds:

Interesting Marty. That in AR12805 may have been just a brighter area of plage. I wish I would have used the SMII90. It has much better resolution and tunes more accurately it seems.
