Sun in Ha and CaK 16th March 2021

Post by Carbon60 »

After a wet, grey morning, the afternoon sky opened up and large patches of blue allowed me to capture a few images in Ha and CaK at various image scales. The downside was the air between the afternoon sun and my scopes lacked stability and the seeing conditions were not ideal for close up views, but I gave it my best shot.

First up, a CaK full disk view showing the older active regions and the new one coming around the bend

Then over to the DS Lunt 60 for a quadrant view of the Sun and the new AR together with AR2808. A very faint prom can just about be seen towards the top of the image.

Despite the conditions I switched to my DS 150mm/Lunt 35 mod to image the prom in more detail and take a closer look at AR2808.

Given the good weather, unfortunately I had to break off to do some outdoor painting and clean out a bird box ready for this year's residents.

Thanks for looking

Stu.

Great job with those images, Stuart. Nicely done. You can see the new active region very clearly.

A very nice collection of images Stu, hoping the weekend gives me some clear skies, but looking at the forecast it just seems endless cloud, I hope it's wrong!

Thanks, Mark,
Just watched Carol (BBC) delivering the weather forecast. It looks like you have a slightly better chance of seeing some Sun where you are than where I am. It really is going to be endless cloud here over the next few days.

Wonderful Stuart, the resolution in the prominence is fabulous :hamster: :bow I hope the weather is better than predicted this weekend, each day the cloud seems to clear over lunchtime to give a glorious afternoon and evening. Thick fog here at the moment though ;)
